Planted in 1957 as Valley Brook Baptist Church with the purpose of reaching North Decatur, our church experienced many years of faithful ministry, but in later years found the challenge of reaching a rapidly changing community to be increasingly difficult. Desiring to reach their neighbors, and to see God begin a new work on the foundations of the church’s missional legacy, the congregation voted to replant the church in 2022. This began a process of transformation and the church changed its name to The River Church at Valley Brook in 2023. During this time a partnership with Veritas Church began to develop. In 2024, Veritas Church, located on N Decatur Rd, merged with The River Church. Veritas began in the early 2000’s and thrived in ministry for many years. The last few years saw decline, but then a move toward revitalization and renewed discipleship. As Veritas and The River began to encourage one another and join in ministry together, it became apparent that the Lord was leading the two churches to become one, having understood that merging was a pathway to greater health and impact for God’s Kingdom.  With a renewed vision for gospel advance, The River Church is set to be a gospel presence in North Decatur for years to come.
